ABOUT
VolunCheers KC is a nonprofit organization that makes volunteering easy and accessible. Our goal is to hold volunteer events every month that are open to everyone and then meet up at a local brewery, distillery, winery, or other local business after we're done.
Although most of our meetups will be at alcohol-related places, many of the places are family friendly and serve sodas, coffee, water, and more, so most volunteer events are all ages.
We're a father and daughter team and we started in this project in 2019, because we're big fans of doing good, drinking beer, and meeting new people. We've volunteered for years locally and across the nation including helping in New York City after 9/11, planting trees with Bridging the Gap locally, volunteering with several local organizations, and helping in Jefferson City after an EF4 tornado in 2019. We have a passion for helping communities, people, and animals.
Volunteer events will be mostly local volunteer efforts with an occasional trip out of town when and where we're needed.
FAQs
Can I bring my kids?
Depends on the event, but in most cases, yes. Currently, everyone under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Can I bring my pet?
No, unless noted otherwise, pets are not allowed at our volunteer events. Most places of business that we'll be going to after don't allow pets (other than service animals) by law, so to make it easy on everyone, please leave your pet at home.
I'm happy to help, but what do I get?
Other than the rewarding feeling of doing good, the meetup after the volunteer event will have discounts and specials for VolunCheers KC volunteers only. You will receive an Official Volunteer Rewards Card you can use to get discounts and specials on a future visit to our Brewery Partners. You'll also get to meet with like-minded people and make some new friends.
Okay, I'm helping, what do I need to bring and what do you supply?
It depends on the event, but typically you should wear comfortable clothes you are willing to get dirty, closed-toe shoes (tennis shoes), and bring a water bottle. In the email we send to you for the specific event, we'll let you know what we expect from you. What we supply also depends on the event and will be noted on the event page and in the email sent to you.
Are events rain, snow, wind, or shine?
For the most part, yes. If there is a chance for bad weather, we will send an email and a text with more information at least one hour before our event is set to start.
I can't donate my time, but I want to donate some items or financially. How do I do that?
Thanks for helping any way you can. Check out our Get Involved page to find out more on how you can donate some items or financially. We like to reward our volunteers, so anything helps.
Won't we be too dirty to go somewhere after?
Sometimes, but you're free to go home and take a shower and meet up with us at the meet up location. Depending on the event, we may have about 30 minutes to an hour between the end of the event and going to our meet up location so we can all clean up a little. In most cases, the breweries don't mind as long as we're respectful.
How do I use my Official Volunteer Rewards Card?
Your reward card rewards you for volunteering with us On the day of the event, you'll get a discount from that Partner Brewery and the first time you volunteer, you'll receive a card to use in the future that has discounts and specials from all 12 Partners. Email rewards@voluncheerskc.org if you have any questions or concerns.
